Adam Cross - Sirens
Album Review by: [info]elfslut

Sometimes you find an album that just blows you away. These are usually few and far between, but if you are looking for one, Adam Cross' Sirens should go on your list. This is modern rock at its best. It combines rock with dance-ability.

Adam's music falls somewhere between Matchbox Twenty and Maroon 5. This album is pure pop heaven. Songs like "Scared To Pieces" and "Thursday" will end up on repeat. The choruses of each song are like anthems. When you reach that point of the song, you want to crank up the volume and sing along, loudly. With "Scared To Pieces" it is hard not to pull a lighter and start waving it in the air.

"Tragedy" is a song that will definitely appeal to those listeners with a love for all things 80s. It is hard not to think of Ultravox when you hear the slow beat of the song. It shares that wonder dramatic electronic vibe that is found in many new romantic songs.

Great songwriting and a good backing band make for a great album, but more than those things are the vocals. Adam Cross has voice that is full of energy and emotion. When he rocks out on "Dance" singing, "I'm gonna steal her," there won't be a girl that doesn't want to be the one he's singing about. The falsetto on the chorus of "Save Me," gives the song an ethereal quality.

One thing you can definitely say about Adam Cross is that his music is about relationships from the most casual to the most passionate. "I'm burning up with feelings, you're holding fast to reason. I've said it too many times to ask. and I'm scared to pieces." are lyrics that feel open and honest from "Scared To Pieces." On the opposite side of the coin are the flirty lyrics to "Time Of Our Lives." "What's your name girl. Let's start talking. Would you like to come with me where I am going?"

Adam mixes the serious with the fun which is one of the things that makes this album such an enjoyable listen. It has balance. It doesn't go to one extreme and stay there. That's what makes it one of the most perfect pop albums that you can listen to.

Adam Cross is the artist that we all wait for. With Sirens you get the whole nine yards; an album that is finely crafted with superb songwriting, expert playing and a vocal that will melt butter. Yes, this album is that good. It isn't often that you can find an album that doesn't have a throwaway track, but this is one of them. The pop music gods have definitely smiled upon us.

Most pop music is a bit fluffy these days, but Adam Cross' Sirens reminds us that you can still have a song that fun to listen to, while making you think just a bit. If you are in the market for a good pop album, this is record for you. It is 100% brilliant!
